Why Poetry?

People often ask me why I write poetry,

to them it's just a waste of time.

"How do you have the patience?

It's just a silly rhyme!"

Well poetry's my passion,

And I'm not seeking fame.

But it helps me conquer secret fears,

And achieve my personal aims!

I write for people around me,

I write for those I love.

Poetry is a blessing,

A blessing from above.

I'm not another Shakespeare,

I don't care about MacBeth.

There are more important issues,

Like poverty, war and death.

I write about the world I see,

I write about you and me.

There's no hidden mystery,

And there is no magic pen.

Poetry's just another language,

One for all to comprehend.

Anyone can write a poem,

It's never too late to start.

Just sit still and listen,

To the voice within your heart.
